A comforting French Toast Casserole that is perfect for brunch, combining the ease of preparation with delightful flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (such as challah or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Butter for greasing
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter, ensuring each corner is well coated.
  2. Cube the loaf of bread into roughly bite-sized cubes and layer them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered bread cubes, saturating them thoroughly.
  5. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  7. Serve warm, possibly with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

Using day-old bread improves texture; consider adding fruit or nuts for variations.
