A classic French sandwich topped with creamy béchamel, savory ham, and a golden sunny-side-up egg that makes for a delightful breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 slices of ham
  • 1 slice of cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • 1 egg
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Create the béchamel sauce by melting butter in a saucepan, mixing in flour to form a roux, then whisking in milk until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Assemble the sandwich by spreading butter on the bread, adding ham, and topping with cheese.
  4. Apply béchamel sauce on top and bake for 10-12 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  5. Fry the egg sunny-side up in a pan with butter.
  6. Final assembly: Place the fried egg on top of the sandwich and serve immediately.

Notes
