A delightful classic Italian dessert that layers coffee-soaked ladyfingers with a creamy mascarpone mixture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisking the egg mixture: In a saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar over medium heat until combined and slightly thickened. This process creates a rich base that adds depth to your Tiramisu. Once thickened, add the milk and stir until smooth, then remove from heat.
  2. Beating the cream: In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. This will give your dessert the light and airy texture that Tiramisu is known for. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until well combined, being careful not to lose the volume you’ve created.
  3. Soaking the ladyfingers: Combine the cooled espresso and optional coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the mixture, ensuring they’re well-soaked but not soggy. Layer them in your serving dish, creating a robust foundation for your dessert.
  4. Layering the mascarpone mixture: Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing it gently to cover every inch. This creamy layer brings richness that harmonizes beautifully with the coffee-soaked cookies.
  5. Building your Tiramisu: Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone. This careful layering is key to achieving a balanced flavor throughout the dessert.
  6. Chilling and finishing touches: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. This step allows all the flavors to meld beautifully. Before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder and add chocolate shavings for an extra touch of indulgence.

Notes

Use high-quality espresso for the best flavor. Don’t oversoak the ladyfingers; a quick dip is all you need. Make sure to chill the Tiramisu for a minimum of 4 hours for the best texture.
