A healthier twist on classic falafel, made in an air fryer for a crispy and delicious finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons flour (or chickpea flour)
  • Olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients: In a food processor, combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using). Process until a coarse mixture forms.
  2. Integrate the flour: Add flour and pulse a few times to combine.
  3. Shape the mixture: Form the mixture into small balls or patties.
  4. Preheat the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Prepare for cooking: Lightly spray the falafel with olive oil and place them in the air fryer basket.
  6. Air fry the falafel: Cook for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve: Serve warm with pita bread, tahini sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Ensure chickpeas are well-drained and allow shaping to rest for better form during cooking. Experiment with spices to suit your taste.
